The San Francisco Police Commission re-elected Teresa Sparks as president and selected Dr. Joe Marshall as vice president in unanimous roll-call votes at its May 8 meeting. Commissioners nominated Sparks for president (motion moved by Commissioner Lee and seconded by Commissioner De Azuz) and Marshall for vice president (moved by Commissioner Mizuho, seconded by Commissioner De Jesus). The commission recorded unanimous "aye" votes for both officers.
The election took place during the meeting's designated annual-officer selection item. Commissioners thanked outgoing leadership for the previous year and the newly elected officers for their willingness to serve. The actions were procedural and were announced at the start of the meeting before substantive agenda items commenced.
The commission will continue its regular schedule of meetings and said it intends to emphasize implementation items discussed later in the meeting, including foot-patrol planning and administrative reforms.
