At the July 11 meeting the commission received a brief update and public thanks for the San Francisco Police Department’s role in security for the recent Major League Baseball All‑Star Game.
Phil Ginsberg, the mayor’s chief of staff, told the commission the event was ‘‘a tremendous event for San Francisco’’ and praised the police commission and department for their planning. Kevin Hallinan, Major League Baseball’s senior vice president for security and facilities management, said he and his staff ‘‘could not be more pleased’’ with the department’s work and singled out SFPD as among the best they have worked with in other host cities.
Chief Heather Fong credited planning that began last year and emphasized cooperation across SFPD bureaus and with state and federal partners. She said officers in units from marine and patrol to tactical companies and airport bureau personnel contributed, and she highlighted the role of specific commanders and station captains in operational success.
The commission thanked Mayor’s Office and MLB representatives and directed the department to continue after‑action reviews to capture lessons learned for future large events.
