OCC director tells commission of joint investigations with SID and plans to integrate 3-1-1 complaint intake

The director of the Office of Citizen Complaints reported to the commission that OCC recently turned potentially criminal matters to the police chief and the district attorney and described a series of follow-up meetings with Special Investigations Unit (SID) staff and the district attorney’s office.
"There has been great communication," the OCC director said, describing joint work to coordinate witness interviews and investigative steps and noting that SID had requested some temporary pauses in OCC actions to coordinate interviews.
The director also said that 3-1-1 staff would meet with OCC staff and the commission’s IT contact to discuss ways to incorporate complaint intake into the citywide 3-1-1 system so residents can file complaints more easily through the general line rather than only through OCC’s direct channels.
Commissioners asked about a previously discussed community-outreach manual for OCC; the director said a draft manual could be presented within a month and that the controller planned an internal audit of the office soon. Commissioners asked for quarterly or midyear reporting on case metrics and expressed interest in greater scrutiny of OCC operations matching that given to the police department.
