SFMTA Board approves contract to modernize off‑street parking systems

SFMTA staff told the Board they will seek authorization to award a contract with SKIDATA to implement a modern parking access and revenue control system across 22 agency facilities for an amount not to exceed $19,848,007 and a term through June 30, 2029. Ted Graff, Director of Parking, said the current systems had exceeded their useful life and raised PCI and customer‑service concerns.
The new system will provide centralized monitoring, updated pay machines, intercoms and integrated cameras; staff said it will enable migration of additional garages to the SFpark pricing model and expand capabilities for EV and car‑share integration. Graff said recent facility improvements and rate adjustments had already increased projected garage revenue and that modernization supports both customer service and revenue protection.
The Board approved staff’s recommendation to move forward and indicated the contract will next go to the Board of Supervisors for final approval because of its size.
Next steps: Staff will finalize procurement and proceed to the Board of Supervisors for contract authorization and then implement equipment installation and central monitoring station setup.
