The San Francisco Department of Public Health presented its FY22–23 gifts report and a Finance & Planning Committee update on Aug. 1.
DPH Controller Drew Murrell told commissioners the department accepted approximately $3,500,000 in gifts during the fiscal year, largely state donations of test kits, and that reporting now includes gifts from the Public Health Foundation in accordance with a May memorandum of understanding.
Commissioner Chow summarized the Finance & Planning Committee contracts report, which included renewals and extensions for multiple vendors and community partners: administrative services for HIV/STD/COVID programs, a hospice contract extension, Mission Neighborhood contract extensions, a mental‑health unit contract for Canyon Manor (out of county), vouchers for food access under UCSF programs tied to the San Francisco Health Plan performance improvement program, continued funding for Ward 86 professional services, a two‑year extension for Horizons' substance‑use prevention services for youth, and a temporary housing contract (HTL 587, 587 Eddy Street) providing 31 rooms at roughly $100,000 per month while more economical alternatives are sought.
The commission received a sole‑source report summarizing exemptions under the city's ordinance and the year’s limited use of sole‑source grant agreements; commissioners noted the department’s efforts to track sole‑source usage for nonprofit contracts. The consent calendar including these items was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
