Health Commission unanimously honors Zuckerberg San Francisco General staff; hospital presents dozens of awards

Dr. Susan Ehrlich, ZSFG's CEO, thanked commissioners and said the hospital would share the resolution broadly with staff. Director of Health Grant Colfax and commissioners spoke in turn to praise the hospital's clinical and operational response. Colfax called ZSFG "an outstanding public health hospital," noting the hospital's role in clinical care and the citywide response.
Following the resolution, ZSFG leaders presented awards recognizing frontline and support teams across departments including the COVID-19 screening work group, clinical laboratory, infection control, facilities, environmental services, urgent care, pharmacy, maternal-child programs, Team Lily (wraparound services for pregnant and postpartum people), and many others. Presenters described concrete achievements: expanded testing and triage workflows, rapid cross-training of post-anesthesia staff to support critical care, mobile clinic operations that delivered medication and telehealth services, and community-facing programs that delivered food and supplies to patients in quarantine.
Several award citations included quantitative details highlighted by presenters: the hospital reported more than 94,000 outpatient and inpatient encounters annually and described large-scale redeployments (197 ZSFG staff and 20 UCSF staff to support COVID operations). Senior leaders emphasized that many of these efforts directly supported the city's lower hospitalization and death rates during earlier pandemic surges.
The commission adjourned the awards portion and moved on to other agenda items after brief public comment opportunities in which no members of the public registered to speak.
