Commission approves $79,453 Laguna Honda donation and related gift-fund budget change

The San Francisco Health Commission voted to recommend that the Board of Supervisors accept and expend a $79,453 donation to the Laguna Honda gift fund from Friends of Laguna Honda and approved a related modification to the fiscal-year 2019-20 gift fund budget.

Staff explained the donation was designated for two purposes: $42,653 to support one year of the existing professional-services contract for the "Art with Elders" program and the remainder (approximately $36,800) to expand the Centers of Excellence "wish list," which funds equipment and supplies for specialty programs at Laguna Honda such as palliative care, hospice and rehabilitation. The department noted that the contract for Art with Elders is currently fully funded and that this contribution would be applied to subsequent-year commitments under the departments purchase-order structure.

Commissioners were shown a revised resolution with corrected numeric errors in an earlier draft; staff thanked a colleague for catching the discrepancy. With no public comment requested, an unidentified commissioner moved to approve the gift acceptance recommendation, a second was recorded, and the Commission called the motion and recorded a favorable voice vote. The Commission also moved and approved the requested budget modification to incorporate the gift into the Laguna Honda gift fund for FY 2019-20.

The approval will allow the department to apply the donation to the specified programs and to increase the gift fund allotment used for Centers of Excellence requests from resident neighborhoods and program areas.
