William Frazier, program manager for Laguna Honda, presented the hospitals gift fund budget request for fiscal year 2019-20 totaling $426,170 to support programs across 15 categories. Frazier said the gift fund balance was approximately $2.77 million with year-to-date expenditures of about $252,500 (as of Jan. 27) and explained that a portion of budgeted items carry over due to prior-year timing and PeopleSoft-related accounting delays.
Frazier outlined priority programs supported by the fund: activity therapy programs, special foods, memory-care initiatives (music programs), assistive-technology grants (including iPads), and rehabilitation services. Commissioners discussed under-spending versus budgeted amounts and asked about barriers to expenditure; Frazier said accounting and donation timing (Friends of Laguna Honda shifting to lump-sum donations) contributed and offered to invite commissioners to the Gift Fund Committee meetings for further oversight.
A motion to adopt the Laguna Honda gift fund budget was moved and seconded; the commission voted "Aye."
