Susan Ehrlich, CEO of Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, praised Sanchez for his advocacy and connection to the community, saying, "You've been a tireless advocate for our patients and for our community." Mayvika Rote, speaking for the Laguna Honda community, thanked Sanchez for supporting the facility's rebuild and for work on policies and community events.
Multiple commissioners offered personal tributes. Vice President Jimmy Loyce said Sanchez provided historical context that helped set policy, and Commissioner Guillermo described Sanchez as an important teacher and mentor. Director Grant Colfax said Sanchez's "kindness, wisdom and guidance" were visible in the meetings atmosphere.
The chair called the question and the commission voted in the affirmative; the resolution passed by voice vote and Dr. Sanchez accepted the plaque amid applause.
The recognition closed with brief remarks about Sanchez's long service and the commission moved on to other business.
