Health Commission accepts SFTPH annual gifts report showing $7.8 million in donations for FY16–17

Anne Okubo, Deputy Financial Officer, presented the San Francisco Department of Public Health’s annual gifts report for fiscal year 2016–17 to the Health Commission.
Okubo reported that the department received $7.8 million in gifts during FY 2016–17. She told commissioners the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) Foundation accounted for approximately $5.4 million in gifts and that roughly $1.2 million represented remaining pledges from a capital campaign. Laguna Honda Hospital gift receipts were presented as $295,196 and the Public Health Foundation’s gifts were listed as $813,058. Okubo explained that donations and expenditures do not always line up within a single fiscal year because gifts are received on a rolling basis and may be spent in subsequent years.
Commissioners discussed whether the board-of-directors listings should match the fiscal year being reported; Okubo said she used available organization lists and would update the report to reflect the FY16–17 board membership for consistency. A commissioner disclosed that they serve as the Health Commission’s voting member on the Public Health Foundation board and asked that the affiliation be added to the record. The commission moved to accept the report and approved it by voice vote.
