Christian Patel of the Office of Policy and Planning presented the Department of Public Health's fiscal year 2016-17 annual report, which the department said is required by the San Francisco Administrative Code. The report highlights three major accomplishments: DPH's public health accreditation, progress on the enterprise electronic health record, and the city's Whole Person Care pilot.
Patel said the city received $161 million in Whole Person Care funding as part of a Medi-Cal waiver intended to build a coordinated system of care for homeless San Franciscans. The report also documents 27 programmatic highlights across prevention, protection and infrastructure, plus data sections including DPH's budget and service-site maps.
Patel noted DPH's RFP for an enterprise EHR selected Epic as vendor and that the EHR will be essential for improving patient experience across the San Francisco Health Network. Commissioners praised the report's balance of narrative highlights and data and recommended a future addition of a brief research section to showcase the department's research activity.
The report will be finalized with minor edits based on commission feedback and posted to the department website with printed copies provided by the Public Health Foundation.
