Commissioners reviewed contract reports brought forward from the finance and planning committee and heard a staff presentation on a new protocol for placing organizations on the DPH sole-source list and for annual Sunshine Ordinance reporting. Commissioners were told the sole-source list is a potential contractor roster and that the new protocol adds columns showing continued, new and deleted entries so the department and board can better monitor usage.
Commissioner Chow reported the committee recommended approval of three contract renewals (long-term renewals that extend five-year awards and apply a city cost-of-living increase). One Westside contract was withdrawn from the packet. The chair then asked whether there were public comments; none were requested for this item.
Director Garcia flagged a proposed contract with Better World Advertising supported by a CDC grant of $470,000 to launch a social marketing campaign to raise awareness about PrEP and related healthy-use messaging for the department—s prevention programs; she offered to answer questions before the consent vote. The consent calendar was moved and approved by voice vote.
Staff said documents describing sole-source usage and a regular review process will be made available to commissioners, and that they will bring a summary of contract monitoring and compliance to the full commission in the coming months.
