President Chao summarized the committee’s work and said the Comtel system will support bedside nurse access and additional monitoring functions; the maintenance contract is included in the department’s anticipated general budget. The committee noted that LEAN work began in 2012 and has included roughly 55 workshops; Director Garcia will report twice yearly on progress toward making the department more LEAN‑capable and less consultant dependent.
Commissioners were told the architectural studies will examine clinical, biomedical, administrative and housing reuse options and are intended to provide an inventory ahead of possible capital bond planning in 2022. The commission approved the consent calendar unanimously.
