Health Commission unanimously backs recommendation to accept $2.625 million gift for Zuckerberg San Francisco General

The San Francisco Health Commission on the meeting’s consent calendar voted unanimously to recommend that the Board of Supervisors accept a $2,625,000 gift from the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation to purchase furniture, fixtures, equipment and information technology for the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

Greg Wagner, chief financial officer, told commissioners the foundation’s multi‑year fundraising drive has been “very successful” and that the commission has previously approved $58.4 million in gifts associated with the project. He said the funds will support final pre‑opening purchases and early operating needs at the new hospital. “This will help us keep the dollars going out the door, and finish up expenditures and then also carry into the early months of operating the new hospital,” Wagner said.

Commissioners discussed ways to acknowledge donors. Commissioner 4 noted several public thank‑you events and donor acknowledgments at the ribbon‑cutting and other ceremonies; Pam Baer and members of the foundation board were named during the discussion. No members of the public spoke on the item.

President Chao called the motion and the commission voted to approve the resolution by voice vote; the record shows the vote passed unanimously.

Next steps: the commission’s action is a recommendation. The Board of Supervisors must formally accept and authorize expenditure of the gift before the funds are available for purchasing and installation at the hospital.
