Roland Pickens, interim chief operating officer of San Francisco General Hospital and director of the Health Network, said the foundation—s capital campaign was designed to raise funds specifically for FFE (furniture, fixtures and equipment) that were not covered by the voters— $887,000,000 general obligation bond for the new building.
"As you know, the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation embarked upon a very ambitious capital campaign to raise funds for what's referred to as F F and E fixtures, furniture, and equipment," Pickens said.
Greg Wagner, the department—s chief financial officer, explained the resolution was structured into multiple resolved clauses to reflect the timing of staged gifts, list associated naming, and note conditions when naming has contractual time limits. Legal staff described provisions granting the Director of Health limited administrative authority to make minor sign-location adjustments without returning to the commission for every change.
Amanda Hyer, executive director of the SFGH Foundation, noted broad philanthropic support from long-standing and newer donor families as well as hospital providers and staff who contributed. The commission moved, seconded and approved the resolution unanimously.
The commission also thanked city attorneys and foundation leaders for structuring the gifts to meet legal and administrative requirements. Staff said they will continue fundraising and expect additional donors as the hospital opening approaches.
