SFHSS executive director to retire; board authorizes recruitment process and cancels October meeting

President Howe told commissioners that Executive Director Abby Yant will retire and that SFHSS has started coordination with the Department of Human Resources to issue an RFP for an executive recruitment firm to support selecting a successor. Howe asked commissioners to commit to an open, transparent search that will comply with public meeting and disclosure requirements and said the deputy city attorney will advise on process questions.
Abby Yant confirmed her planned last working day is Nov. 15 and thanked board members; she said staff will support the search and recruitment while continuing open‑enrollment duties.
The board handled two brief procedural motions during the meeting: it moved and approved the minutes from the Aug. 8, 2024 meeting and then voted to cancel the regular October 2024 meeting in deference to open enrollment. Both motions were moved and seconded and passed by recorded roll call votes with all members voting aye.
