Health Service Board announces Abby Yant as incoming executive director

The board’s search began in late April/early May and included screening, finalist interviews and outreach to employees, retirees and outside stakeholders, Scott said. "We have found not only the person we have made an offer to, the offer has been accepted," Scott told the board as he introduced Yant. Scott thanked the search firm and staff for their participation and praised interim leaders for maintaining services during the transition.
Abby Yant, who addressed the board after being introduced, said she resigned her hospital position to accept the HSS role. "It's a big transition, but I'm really looking forward to working with you and working for this very valuable benefit for all the city employees and retirees," Yant said. She noted prior experience with city agencies and said the familiarity would ease the early weeks on the job.
Acting Executive Director Mitchell Griggs and Pamela Levin, the chief financial officer, joined commissioners in public commendation for staff who managed open enrollment and other operations while the search was under way. President Scott said the board will follow standard conflict‑of‑interest procedures as Yant transitions from prior volunteer and board activities into a city role.
Next steps: the board directed staff to coordinate onboarding details and to report on any procedural matters related to the closed‑session hiring process consistent with the board’s vote to disclose the action during the president’s report. No additional formal action was taken at the meeting on contract terms or an employment start date beyond the February timeframe Scott cited.
