Paul Brown, Blue Shield account manager, told the board Blue Shield of California updated its Hepatitis C drug qualification guidelines to align with the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and the Infectious Disease Society of America. The change relaxes some medical‑necessity requirements so certain members previously denied coverage may now qualify.
Brown said Blue Shield retroactively notified affected members in December and encouraged them to contact their physician and reapply. He said the number of members who had been denied was small (fewer than 30) and that notifications had been sent.
