San Francisco — The HSS Board unanimously approved a five-year renewal with VSP that reduces rates for the first three years and introduces a broader primary eye care benefit to replace the existing acute-eye-care rider.
Aon Hewitt presented the negotiated 2017–2021 schedule and said the vendor proposed a 2% rate reduction for each of the first three years, with limited potential increases in years four and five only if loss-ratio triggers required it. VSP's representative described replacement of the acute-eye-care rider with "primary eye care," saying it adds 43 services to the scope of covered optometry/ophthalmology services at no additional cost to the plan.
