Planning staff presented updates to the downtown conservation district historic design guidelines and requested the Historic Preservation Commission’s review and comment. Rebecca Salgado, planning staff, summarized edits made since the April hearing: a new page with instructions for conducting basic historic research on properties, revisions to storefront, signage and marquee standards, added standards for marquees and signage, allowances for alternative materials and finishes, and two case studies to illustrate storefront guidance.
Staff said the updates reflect commissioner feedback gathered in prior meetings and follow-up consultations with commissioners. Public comment was not submitted for this informational item. Commissioners praised the clarification and usefulness of case studies for property owners and applicants and discussed how the revisions might help building owners and small businesses navigate rehabilitation and restoration work.
Because the item was strictly review-and-comment, there was no action taken; staff will incorporate feedback as appropriate.
