Commission hears department updates and continues several items to November 1

The Historic Preservation Commission received several department announcements and took procedural actions to continue items to future hearings.
Rich Ducray of department staff briefed commissioners that the Colombo Arch advanced to the full board for a second reading toward becoming a city landmark and that initiation had been received for landmark consideration of San Francisco Fire Station No. 40 in Visitation Valley, initiated by Supervisor Walton. Ducray also relayed invitations to the Church of the Fellowship of All Peoples’ Howard Thurman convocation on Oct. 15 and the African American Arts & Culture District community business hub grand opening on Oct. 7.
The commission considered adoption of draft minutes from Sept. 20, 2023, but the link to the minutes in the agenda packet was not working. A motion to continue adoption of the minutes to the next hearing on Oct. 18, 2023, was made, seconded and approved unanimously.
Staff also listed two items proposed for continuance, including a planning code amendment (case 2023‑6996PCA) and a certificate of appropriateness matter for Carlton B. Goodlett Place (case 2023‑002748C I A A T). No members of the public spoke on the continuance request; the commission voted to continue both items to Nov. 1. Commissioner Foley asked staff to provide artist renderings for the Nov. 1 hearing and specifically expressed concern about ensuring a pedestal would not overly obscure a bust of Mayor Roff.
The commission adjourned in honor of Senator Dianne Feinstein.
