Historic Preservation Commission OKs seven businesses for Legacy Business Registry

The San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission voted unanimously on July 19 to recommend seven long-standing local businesses for inclusion in the city—s Legacy Business Registry.

Planning staff presented the nominations for The Dubliner (neighborhood sports bar), Under Glass Custom Framing, Delano Nursery Inc., Friscotti restaurant, Adventure Cat Sailing Charters, Eli and Eva Company (Chinatown music and goods), and Enclosures International Corporation, describing each business—s history, community role and staff—s rationale for recommendation. Elena Moore and Maggie Dong summarized the program and said staff supports adoption for each nomination.

Owners and longtime customers spoke in favor during public comment. Rebecca Raider, co-owner of Friscotti, thanked the commission and said the program gives "positive advertisement" to a city that needs it. Eric Funk, representing Under Glass, described the shop as a multi-generational service and said the business has been a destination for customers and artists.

Richard Carrillo of the Office of Small Business explained that nominations come from a mix of outreach, supervisor referrals and self-submissions, and noted ongoing neighborhood outreach and weekly field walks.

Commissioners asked about outreach and nomination procedures; staff said the program uses flyers, fieldwork and partnerships with supervisors and community groups to identify candidates. After brief discussion, a motion to approve the slate was made and seconded; the commission recorded a unanimous 4–0 vote in favor.

The commission—s action forwards the nominations to the next phase of review in accordance with program rules; approved legacy designation typically carries eligibility for technical assistance and recognition under the city—s Legacy Business program.
