Commission adds two long-running businesses to San Francisco legacy registry

The San Francisco Historic Preservation Commission approved resolutions Feb. 3 to add two businesses to the city's legacy business registry: AJC Autobody at 250 Napoleon St. and G Metze & Son Hardware on Third Street.
Planning staff presented both nominations. Katie Wilbarn described AJC Autobody as a 31‑year vehicular collision repair business founded by Ali Castillo that has operated continuously at the same location and maintains historical signage and business uses. "AJC is known for its excellent customer service and has seen returning customers that are now second and third generation patrons," staff said.
Melanie Bishop presented G Metze & Son Hardware, which staff said has served the Bayview community for 84 years. The nomination notes the store's historic exterior features (brick facade, tile bulkhead, display windows) and long‑running in‑store equipment such as a key‑duplicating machine.
Commissioners praised the nominations and noted their value to District 10. Commissioner Jones moved and another commissioner seconded the motion to approve both applications; the motion passed unanimously, and staff will transmit the resolutions to the appropriate registry office.
