Commission recognizes Marine Chartering and Mission Graduates as legacy businesses

The commission approved staff recommendations to recognize two long‑standing organizations on the Legacy Business Registry.
Shelly Caldicheroni of preservation staff described Marine Chartering (781 Beach Street) as a 63‑year‑old shipping and brokerage firm associated with the waterfront and requested recognition of character‑defining features including ship‑brokerage operations and nautical office decor. Linda Cardenas, the company’s financial officer, said Marine Chartering has operated in Aquatic Park for 40 years and highlighted the company’s maritime ties.
Staff also recommended recognition for Mission Graduates, a nonprofit founded in the early 1970s that provides K–12 programming and college‑preparatory services in the Mission District and at locations including 3040 16th Street. Edward Kaufman, Executive Director, noted the organization’s five decades of service.
Commissioners praised both organizations for their distinct contributions to San Francisco’s maritime and educational fabric and voted unanimously to approve both nominations.
