Jonathan Levin and other public speakers praised Cable Car Clothiers’ multigenerational history and community contributions. "Small businesses and family businesses, in particular, are so valuable to San Francisco," a speaker said.
Staff noted that Ocean Hair Design faces displacement risk and would benefit from registry listing. Commissioners moved to adopt the recommendations for both legacy nominations; the motion passed unanimously, 6 to 0.
The commission suggested future agenda work to explore additional preservation tools beyond registry listing to help legacy businesses remain in place during redevelopment.
