Planning Department staff explained that each application included a rehabilitation and maintenance plan intended to meet the Secretary of the Interior Standards and that the assessor‑recorder’s office provided draft valuations outlining potential tax savings. "The Mills Act legislation authorizes local governments to enter into contracts with private owners of qualified historic properties," Shannon Ferguson said while presenting the item.
Staff described the properties and their proposed maintenance programs: 722 Steiner (Queen Anne residence with seismic upgrades and roof/trim work), 761 Post (an Art Deco contributing building with structural and window rehabilitation), and 807 Montgomery (commercial building with masonry and roof repairs). The commission moved, seconded and passed one motion recommending approval of all three contracts (5–0). The recommendations will be transmitted to the Board of Supervisors for final action.
