Department staff announced evening drop-in hours for short-term rental registration on March 18 from 4–7 p.m. and urged applicants to obtain a business license before applying. "We will be having evening hours on March 18 from 4 to 7, and we'll be taking drop in appointments for people who want to come in, and register their dwelling unit as a short term rental unit," a department staffer said. The staffer added that the department has received "hundreds and hundreds" of calls and is trying to process registrations as quickly as possible.
Planning Department staffer Tim Frey also briefed commissioners on a letter from SFMTA concerning the City Hall traffic-signal certificate of appropriateness and on two National Park Service grant opportunities: a competitive program allowing local governments to apply for underrepresented communities' documentation and interpretation projects, and a fiscal-year grant pool (applications due in May) that includes a roughly $500,000 grant pool for bricks-and-mortar projects tied to African American civil-rights sites.
