Commission recommends three Mills Act contracts for DeBose Park properties

The Historic Preservation Commission voted unanimously Oct. 1 to recommend approval of three Mills Act contract applications for properties in the DeBose Park Landmark District. Department staff presented draft valuations prepared by the Assessor’s Office and maintenance and restoration plans, and recommended forwarding the contracts to the Board of Supervisors.
Staff described the three properties — 68 Pierce Street (shingle-style house, c. 1899), 563–567 Waller Street (Queen Anne, c. 1900, three-family dwelling) and 621 Waller Street (Queen Anne by Fernando Nelson, c. 1900) — and the planned work including roofing and drainage repairs, seismic upgrades, window restoration, foundation and siding work, and measures to prevent water infiltration. Staff noted all three properties are contributing buildings and that the contracts are 10-year revolving agreements with draft valuations under $3,000,000 (assessor to finalize figures before Board review).
After brief questions about paint color and the limits of the Commission’s authority on aesthetic regulation, the Commission moved to adopt the three draft resolutions and forward them to the Board of Supervisors; the motion passed unanimously.
