Owner and staff report plans to reconstruct Julius Castle parapet after rooftop fire

Paul Scott said contractors using blowtorches on the third-floor deck ignited a fire that damaged the parapet. "We have enough information, I believe, both in the drawings and the measurements that we had taken beforehand and the materials that we have now to rebuild it exactly as it was," Scott said.
Department staff confirmed they received photos from the owner and have been inspecting the site. Tim Frey (department staff) said the crenelated parapet was "completely destroyed" but that there appears to be sufficient material to reconstruct the parapet as part of the previously approved Certificate of Appropriateness work. He said there was some interior water damage that remains under examination.
Staff said they would keep the commission updated as remediation and reconstruction work proceeds; no formal action was taken by the commission on this report.
