Rich Sue Craig, preservation staff, presented a certificate of appropriateness request for 151–153 Liberty Street, a contributing resource in the Liberty Hill Historic District. The sponsor proposes to change the existing single-family dwelling back to two units, construct a new garage east of an existing stair, add a 17-foot-6-inch horizontal rear addition and a vertical addition above an existing two-story portion, and make side and rear facade alterations including new window openings and a roof deck.
Craig told the commission the department received five public inquiries (two letters supporting the project, one opposed) and recommended approval with conditions designed to ensure compatibility with the historic district. Staff conditions included submittal of material samples (stair tread/rise, handrails, stucco finish), a detailed window schedule and conditions assessment, and restoration drawings and details for the existing wood trellis on the primary facade.
With no public speakers and no outstanding technical objections, a motion to approve the project with staff-recommended conditions carried by roll call vote, 7-0.
The commission recorded the approval and directed that the specified materials and drawings be provided as part of the site-permit process.
