Nomination committee recommends Pastor Dorn and Daniel McVay for homeless advisory bodies

The Nomination Committee of the Homeless Oversight Commission voted to recommend two advisory-board candidates and approved outreach materials at its meeting.
Pastor Ewell Dorn was recommended for seat 7 on the Shelter Grievance Advisory Committee after describing on-the-ground concerns at the Monarch Hotel and asking the committee to review denial-of-service (DOS) rules and the grievance process. Dorn told the committee that current DOS rules “leave room for error and not being able to hold people accountable” and that grievance hearings can feel “very adversarial.” The committee unanimously moved and approved a recommendation for Dorn; Commissioners Katie Albright and Kristen Evans were recorded voting Aye.
The committee also moved to forward Daniel McVay to the Local Homeless Coordinating Board (LHCB), proposing him for seat 8. McVay described 12 years’ experience at Progress Foundation and said he will begin work at the Felton Institute; members discussed residency and whether his employer might create conflicts under Continuum of Care (CoC) rules. The committee approved forwarding McVay to the full Homeless Oversight Commission for consideration; recorded votes were Aye from Commissioners Albright and Evans.
Committee chair and staff said these committee recommendations are referrals: the Homeless Oversight Commission will consider and make the final appointments at its next meeting, currently scheduled for Feb. 12. Committee members asked staff to verify current roster details and potential conflicts of interest before the full commission vote.
The committee also approved a recruitment flyer to advertise vacancies for the LHCB, the Shelter Monitoring Committee and the Shelter Grievance Advisory Committee. Members suggested adding the official city seal and fixing minor typos before broader distribution.
Next steps: the Nomination Committee’s recommendations will be transmitted to the full Homeless Oversight Commission for final action; staff will supply roster and conflict information prior to that meeting.
