Gastonia approves two level‑1 economic development grants for local expansions

The Gastonia City Council on Oct. 15 authorized two separate level‑1 local incentive grants for companies expanding in the Gastonia area.
Economic Development Director Christy Crisp presented Project CAPT, described as an expansion in the Gastonia Technology Park with a projected $3.5 million capital investment and 10 new jobs averaging $56,985. City staff said the program returns a declining portion of local tax revenue over five years under the city’s level‑1 grant structure.
Crisp also presented Project Flower, a machinery and equipment expansion into an existing building at 480 Interchange Drive that represents a $1.5 million investment and a proposed 22 new jobs averaging $55,000. Council noted Project Flower will operate on a Duke Power‑served site and that the building is an existing structure currently vacant.
Council closed the public hearings for both items and voted unanimously to approve the grants and authorized legal staff to negotiate final agreement details under the approved program framework. Gaston County commissioners had previously approved related incentives where applicable, and county representatives were present for Project Flower’s presentation.
