LAFCO says goodbye to Executive Officer Brian Goble; hiring panel to interview candidates late September

The Local Agency Formation Commission Committee recognized Executive Officer Brian Goble at his final meeting and outlined the recruitment steps for his successor.
Chair Connie Chan announced that the executive officer position is open and said five applicants will move forward to interviews scheduled toward the end of September. "We hope to have a new executive officer hired and starting mid‑October, if all goes well," Chan said. She said the hiring panel will not include LAFCO commissioners and described its membership as representatives from the Board of Supervisors, the Clerk's Office and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.
Junko Laksamana of the Clerk’s Office explained that the panel interview will be followed by a quick onboarding process for the exempt executive officer position and that the office can disclose the number of applicants and how many were invited to interviews but cannot publicly disclose applicants’ names or specific interview scores.
The commission also reported an open public‑member seat (term ending Feb. 22, 2022) and an open policy‑analyst staff position for the reinvestment working group; the policy‑analyst hiring is paused until the executive officer is onboarded so the two staff can work together.
Public commenters asked for clarity about the hiring panel’s composition and whether the public will have opportunities to vet finalists; Chair Chan said she would not disclose panelists’ names to avoid candidates seeking them out but confirmed the panel’s institutional composition. The commission took no formal action on hiring at the meeting and said it would return with updates as the process moves forward.
