The Local Agency Formation Commission received a final report on what the city and county of San Francisco can do to increase voter turnout, Executive Officer Jason Fried said on May 20. Fried told commissioners the final draft incorporated mostly technical edits plus two small additions: a paragraph about vote‑by‑mail use in Yolo County and a note referencing pending state legislation introduced by an assembly member.
Fried asked the commission to file the report. Commissioner Cruz asked to delay acceptance to have more time to review a section on "Vote 16," saying she would prefer to take the item up at the next meeting. The chair and other commissioners agreed to delay acceptance as requested.
Procedural motions were taken to rescind an earlier motion to excuse Commissioner Maher after learning he had joined the meeting; that rescission was completed before proceeding with the report item. No formal vote to file the final report was completed on May 20 pending the requested additional review.
