Avalos re-elected LAFCo chair; Cruz continues as vice chair; minutes and administrative items approved

The Local Agency Formation Commission on Feb. 26 re-elected John Avalos as chair and confirmed Commissioner Cruz as vice chair for the 02/2016 term.
Nominations were opened at the meeting and a colleague nominated Avalos for chair and Cruz for vice chair; the chair asked to take the nominations without objection and the slate was approved. Earlier in the meeting the commission moved to approve minutes from the Dec. 11 joint special meeting (motion by Commissioner Maher, seconded by Commissioner Campos) and closed public comment on that item.
Jason Fried, the commission’s executive officer, told commissioners staff are finishing a draft report on measures that could increase voter turnout and expect to distribute a March draft for review. Fried also reminded commissioners the March LAFCo meeting will be held March 18 (an adjustment from the usual schedule for the fiscal-year budget discussion) and that Form 700 financial disclosures are due April 1 for public-seat commissioners.
No formal controversy or roll-call disputes were recorded in the meeting’s record for the leadership election or the administrative items.
