LAFCO appoints Cynthia Cruz and Edwin Lindo to San Francisco public seats

The San Francisco Local Agency Formation Commission on Friday appointed Cynthia Cruz to the primary public seat and Edwin Lindo to the alternate public seat after hearing candidate presentations and broad public support.
Cynthia Cruz, an activist who identified herself with the League of Pissed Off Voters, told commissioners she grew up near Superfund sites and that environmental justice and implementing Clean Power SF are top priorities for her service. “I ask you for your appointment today in Seat 6,” Cruz said in her remarks.
Edwin Lindo, a San Francisco native who described mentorship and community-engagement work through a pilot program he called the League of Extraordinary Men, said he would push for neighborhood outreach and for addressing displacement and affordability concerns. “We need to have our young students…be part of the new economy,” Lindo said.
Dozens of community members spoke during public comment in support of one or both candidates. Thea Selby urged the commission to appoint Cruz based on her advocacy and policy experience; Karen Babbitt, speaking for the Sierra Club, said Cruz’s civic experience and focus on Clean Power SF make her well suited for the seat.
Commissioner Breed moved to nominate Cruz for the voting public seat and Lindo for the alternate; the motion was seconded (the record shows Commissioners Campos and Marr as seconds) and taken without objection. Chair Supervisor John Avalos congratulated both appointees.
The appointments are intended to bolster LAFCO’s community reach and its engagement on Clean Power SF, the city’s Community Choice Aggregation effort. The commission did not identify additional conditions attached to the appointments during the meeting.
