LAFCO reappoints David Campos as chair; Avalos named vice chair

The San Francisco Local Agency Formation Commission reappointed David Campos as chair and selected Commissioner Avalos as vice chair in a roll-call vote at its Jan. 27, 2012 meeting. The clerk recorded three ayes — Avalos, Campos and Pimentel — and the motion carried.
The vote followed nominations from Commissioners Avalos and Pimentel and a public comment in support from Eric Brooks of the San Francisco Green Party. Campos thanked his colleagues after the vote and said he looks forward to continuing work on community choice aggregation and other priorities.
The appointment came amid other routine business: the commission approved minutes from its Oct. 11, 2011 special joint meeting and adopted a proposed 2012 meeting calendar (generally fourth Fridays with a May exception and combined November/December dates). Both measures were moved and taken without objection.
Why it matters: The chair and vice chair set internal priorities and help coordinate LAFCO's work with city agencies and the Board of Supervisors. Campos told commissioners he will set up a briefing with the mayor to discuss community choice aggregation and noted a new commissioner is expected to join the body soon.
