LAFCO approves short contract extensions for Local Power and Navigant to support final CCA contract work

Interim executive officer Nancy Miller said extensions would be “on an as‑needed basis” and that the combined amounts for each contract would not exceed $35,000 through the end of the fiscal year.
Several public commenters urged active use of Local Power, citing its experience with community choice programs and arguing its involvement could strengthen contract language and help avoid higher customer rates. Eric Brooks of the Community Choice Energy Alliance urged the commission to “utilize Local Power as much as possible in the next 2 weeks” to secure stronger contract terms; Tom Taylor of the Harvey Milk Club also urged Local Power’s involvement.
The commission approved the extensions; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Campos and taken without objection.
Next steps: Staff said they will draw on consultants to finalize supplier and service agreements and that consultants will assist in modeling rate scenarios and local renewable procurement language where appropriate.
