The Local Agency Formation Commission voted to approve its final budget for fiscal year 2010–11, with staff reporting an obligation amount of $344,000. Jason Fried, LAFCO staff, told commissioners the commission has reserves sufficient to cover the year’s budget and that the intent is to return general fund money to the City and County of San Francisco while reserving the right to request those funds again in future years.
Fried said the LAFCO budget must be adopted by June 15 to follow state statutes and that the commission’s reserves, together with the CCA special fund, will fund program activities. The motion to approve the final budget was made by Commissioner Avila and seconded by Commissioner Dufty; staff recorded the motion as prevailing.
The approval is procedural but significant for scheduling: Fried said staff will provide the completed contract and supporting materials to other approving bodies and analysts before early June so they can take their advisory and approval steps.
Next steps: The commission approved the budget so staff can continue CCA and related work; the budget adoption also triggers internal steps to return general fund monies and to prepare materials for other city reviewers.
