LAFCO authorizes hire of community development assistant to support Clean Power SF outreach

LAFCO commissioners voted to authorize the executive officer to hire a community development assistant to support community outreach and implementation for the Clean Power SF program. Jason Fried, speaking for LAFCO staff, said the second position will focus on community development and be critical for public education once the opt‑out enrollment period begins.
Fried said the role was part of the original staffing plan: the commission earlier approved hiring his position and deferred the second hire until the pace of the RFP and implementation justified the addition. He told commissioners the hire would help the city present accurate information to residents and respond to outreach and opposition by incumbent utilities.
Public commenters offered to help with outreach: Eric Brooks (San Francisco Green Party) offered pro‑bono canvassing and messaging support and urged staff to draw on community advocates when designing public information materials.
The motion was moved and seconded at the LAFCO meeting and passed with no objections. LAFCO staff said they will work with SFPUC staff on outreach coordination and will return with recruitment steps and a hiring timeline.
