PUC says electrical infrastructure work will start at Hunters Point Shipyard redevelopment

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission told LAFCO on March 30 that it is moving forward with electrical infrastructure work at the Hunters Point Shipyard redevelopment as part of a New Green Community initiative.
Barbara Hale, assistant general manager for power at the PUC, said initial construction will begin within a month to relocate water meters and install the first piece of switchgear, which will serve as the interconnection point between PUC retail services and Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Hale said the PUC is close to a wholesale distribution tariff and service agreement with PG&E and anticipates filing that agreement with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Hale also said the PUC expects to complete its feasibility-study work soon and will present the results to the Board of Supervisors. "We are moving forward with our New Green Community work at the Hunters Point Shipyard Redevelopment in coordination with the Hunters Point Redevelopment Agency Task Force," she said.
What’s next: Staff said construction on meter moves and the switchgear installation is the next milestone, and the PUC will return with the completed feasibility study to the board in the near term.
