City staff unveil draft Outdoor Event Planning and Permitting Guide and schedule producer mixer

Staff presented the first draft of the San Francisco Outdoor Event Planning and Permitting Guide and described work to improve interagency coordination to reduce complexity for event producers.
Dylan Rice, senior analyst for community and cultural events, described the guide as a central online resource with links to permits, flowcharts for street closure and liquor permitting, a pre-application questionnaire, and a permit-fee estimator tool that projects expected fees by department based on event variables. Rice said the objective is to increase transparency and reduce the burden on small and nonprofit event producers.
Rice also announced a mixer and panel for outdoor event producers and funders on July 27 at The Stud and invited commissioners to a future special hearing to convene stakeholders and technical departments. Commissioners praised the guide and suggested modular downloads so users could print or save topical sections from the larger draft.
Staff said the guide is being vetted across departments and that they plan training and outreach when the document is finalized.
