Entertainment Commission reviews New Year—s Eve operations, enforcement updates and approves consent items

The San Francisco Entertainment Commission received reports on New Year's Eve operations and ongoing enforcement activity and approved routine consent items and prior meeting minutes.
Executive Director Weiland said enforcement staff and inspectors worked with other city agencies to monitor New Year's Eve and New Year's Day events, distributing 350 posters to 85 venues to promote Alert SF short-code sign-ups and conducting site inspections overnight. "This year went off without a hitch," Weiland said, adding that inspectors checked events into the early morning and that the department received four complaints total, including one via 311 around 2 a.m.
Deputy Director Azevedo briefed commissioners on enforcement highlights in the written enforcement report: continuing complaints at a venue being coordinated with SFPD Mission Station and the owner; ongoing noise complaints at Revolution Cafe with plans for on-site sound testing and sound-abatement discussions; complaints related to the Space Cowboys Block Party and contact with event managers; and a citation issued to Ultra Bowl for exceeding LLP time — Ultra Bowl has received three citations since July, Azevedo said.
There was no public comment on the enforcement report. Commissioners asked for follow-up steps; Azevedo described inspector responses, conversations with venue managers and plans for in-person meetings to address closing procedures and noise management.
On routine business the commission approved the minutes for 12/17/2019 and a consent calendar consisting of two accessory-use permits. Commissioners voted unanimously on both items.
The meeting closed with commissioner announcements, including a note that Portsmouth Square has lowered maximum parking rates to $8 from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. with validation discounts, and a request for ideas about future staff presentations and partnerships with cultural districts. Chair adjourned the meeting at 6:11 p.m.
