Deputy Director Azevedo told the Entertainment Commission that inspectors have seen a rise in residential complaints after recent Halloween events and that the department is prioritizing follow-up and coordination with SFPD.
Azevedo called out several venues: the Penthouse Club is remodeling its lower floor and inspectors recommended improved soundproofing for a leaky exterior door; Bow Bow Cocktail Lounge will be brought into compliance for karaoke programming; and Ultra Bowl received a $200 citation after inspectors found it operating with entertainment while zoned only for limited live performance (LLP). Azevedo said Ultra Bowl has missed intake meetings and continues to appear in reports, prompting citation and a scheduled intake to address compliance.
Regarding 906 World Cultural Center on Broadway, Azevedo said inspectors documented a Halloween gathering of about 500 people; the venue is pursuing an LLP and staff scheduled an intake meeting to walk through compliance. Azevedo said bar‑owner outreach and intake meetings are being scheduled for Bar T call and others.
An unidentified questioner asked why venues repeatedly appear despite inspectors finding them in compliance on site; Azevedo said compliance readings during inspections do not always match neighborhood experience and noted gaps in weekday enforcement presence, adding staff will coordinate with Mission Station to provide follow-up visits during quieter weeknights.
No formal enforcement policies were changed at the meeting; Azevedo's report was informational and staff will continue intake and enforcement steps as needed.
