Senior analyst Dylan Rice briefed the Entertainment Commission on updates to the city’s Outdoor Event Planning and Permitting Guide, recent producer education and networking, and a forthcoming digital rollout for one‑time event permits.
Rice said the July guide update includes new permit fees, city contacts, and zero‑waste guidance and that it is posted on the outdoor events web page. He recapped a July 22 event at Jolene’s focused on vendor management that drew 34 attendees from festival and venue organizers and included presentations from Event Hub, La Cocina and Eat Drink SF.
Rice said he is project‑managing a redesigned online application for one‑time indoor and outdoor permits and that recent user testing with the digital services agency surfaced usability challenges. The new application will ask more detailed security‑plan questions and aims to reduce complexity and improve compliance; staff plans a soft launch in the coming weeks.
Rice and commissioners also discussed the environment department’s ban on distribution of bottled water on city property and available waivers for financial hardship or infrastructure limitations.
Next steps: Rice will proceed with a soft launch of the online application, continue producer trainings and coordinate with environment department on zero‑waste trainings for event producers.
