The San Francisco Entertainment Commission on May 21 approved minutes from its May 7 meeting, approved the consent agenda (an accessory‑use permit) by roll call, and granted a continuance for one permit application to the June 4 hearing.
Deputy Director Azevedo presented the enforcement report, calling attention to several venues. She said St. Mary’s Pub at 620 Jones is applying for a limited live performance permit and a billiard parlor permit after an inspector responded to a 3‑1‑1 complaint and a notice of violation. Azevedo also said the Blue Light on Union Street has a new owner and was operating DJs without a permit; staff scheduled a meeting next Wednesday to bring them into compliance and noted the location is not zoned for entertainment but is eligible for an LLP and a billiard parlor permit. Arena SF received a verbal warning after an inspector’s sound reading found the venue operating above a newly issued sound limit; staff said security and other operations were otherwise compliant.
"They are currently underway and applying for a limited live performance, as well as a billiard parlor permit," Deputy Director Azevedo said of the St. Mary’s Pub owner, and she told commissioners staff was working with owners to bring venues into compliance.
Dylan Rice, senior analyst for community and cultural events, described the commission’s new online permitting system for one‑time outdoor event permits, launched May 1. Rice said the office has processed 10 permits through the new end‑to‑end application and has five more currently being processed. The new system collapses multiple PDF forms into one mobile‑friendly application, enables permit display on a phone for inspectors and police, and offers automated email status notifications. Rice said staff plans to migrate other permit types (soundtrack and one‑time indoor event permits) onto the platform in June and will update the commission’s web pages on the city’s sf.gov platform.
