The San Francisco Entertainment Commission on Wednesday conditionally granted a place‑of‑entertainment permit to Executive Order Bar & Lounge, to be located at 868 Mission Street in the Westfield Mall area, after the owner described community outreach, operational plans and preliminary sound testing.
Owner John Eric Sanchez, who previously operated SIP Bar, told the commission he has completed outreach to nearby hotels, retail tenants and neighborhood stakeholders and submitted a sound test to Executive Director Maggie Wylund. Sanchez said the venue will offer comedy on weeknights, acoustic performers and rotating local DJs on weekend nights, operate as a 21‑and‑over venue under a Type 48 liquor license, and agree to SFPD‑recommended conditions of operation.
Commissioners questioned potential hotel and street‑level impacts; Sanchez said the building has double‑pane windows, front doors that close automatically, and that he plans additional mesh curtains and other dampening measures as funding allows. He emphasized that most programming will be in‑house rather than run by outside promoters.
Katrina Liwanag, community organizer for Soma Pilipinas, spoke in support on behalf of the neighborhood cultural heritage district and cited the applicant’s commitments to host Filipino pop‑ups, offer kitchen access for small food businesses and collaborate on cultural programming.
A commissioner moved to approve the permit while striking redundant SFPD items and amending condition 8 to add notification to the Entertainment Commission; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously (Commissioners Thomas, Vice Chair Camino, Tan and Lee voted aye). The permit was conditionally granted pending follow‑up with the executive director.
