Inspectors report multiple venue complaints ahead of busy event weekend

Inspector Burke reported on a series of recent venue inspections and complaints, and said the office will step up monitoring during an expected busy weekend of events. Among matters reported: an apparent lack of entertainment at Chug Pub after an Outside Lands after‑party; an anonymous complaint about sound at Bond Bar; two citations previously issued at 3910 Geary for unpermitted activity (a third visit found no entertainment); an inspection of a venue identified as "Hugh" on June 8 that found ID scanners and visible security; and a June 16 inspection of Halcyon that found the venue in compliance.

Burke said anonymous complaints complicate follow-up because inspectors cannot always contact complainants and that staff will vary inspection days and times (including adding Saturday coverage) to better observe venues during different shifts. Inspector Fiorentino will be out on weekend coverage during the busy period to monitor bridal events, rooftops and civic‑center activity. Staff also noted that the office is compiling a master special‑events calendar to share with first responders and to create situational awareness across departments.

Commissioners asked whether the inspectors would visit venues on a weekly cadence; Burke said the team had visited multiple times and will tailor visits based on prior findings and the upcoming event schedule. Burke also said the office had reached out to unpermitted venues (Redford) to offer guidance on the permitting process.

The Commission did not add new permit conditions at the meeting; inspectors and staff said they will continue to monitor and follow up as needed.
