Inspector Sean Burke gave the commission an overview of enforcement activity and ongoing complaints, saying staff have issued notices of violation and citations to several venues and are coordinating to bring them into compliance.
Burke said his office issued a notice of violation to a vendor for keeping a front door open, which staff believe is responsible for many noise complaints. He listed venues cited for operating without permits, including 3910 Geary and Paramount Superstar at 939 Clement, and said those operators are being brought into compliance and working toward one‑time-event permits and POE applications.
Burke also described an incident at a permitted, one-time Google private event at Lot A that generated 10 residential complaints; a bottle was thrown inside a club and SFPD responded. He said the department is awaiting the SFPD narrative to finalize the incident report.
On the issue of extended-hours enforcement, Burke and commissioners discussed the difficulty of distinguishing entertainment from normal business activity after 4 a.m., the need for consistent inspector coverage during late hours, and the potential for mediation and mitigation (including window retrofits) with venue owners.
Commissioners thanked staff for the improved hearing packet format and urged continued coordination with SFPD and the Fire Department for timely enforcement and safety.
