The San Francisco Entertainment Commission approved a change of ownership for The Mint, a long‑standing Market Street venue, during its May 15 meeting. The new owner, Jimmy Lam, said the business has been under new ownership for about eight months but is maintaining prior operational and security practices to minimize neighborhood impacts.
Lam described the venue’s existing sound‑mitigation measures—double‑paned storefront glass, upgraded doors and in‑house sound testing equipment—and said the previous owner will remain as a consultant during a transition period. Lam told the commission The Mint’s hours of operation run from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m., seven days a week, and that staff and security procedures would remain consistent: “We never close,” he said while describing continuous service and management continuity.
Commissioners noted neighborhood support in the application materials and recorded a unanimous vote in favor of approving the permit transfer. The commission encouraged continued attention to sound control and recommended the new owner coordinate with staff on any outstanding sign‑off items.
